Ustad Sharif Khan Poonchwale

1923 - 1980

Gharana: Poonch

Teacher: Ustad Rahim Bukhsh Khan

An outstanding sitarist, Sharif Khan played a key role in promoting the sitar in Pakistan. He was equally adept at playing the Vichitra Veena.

 

 

Ustad Fateh Ali Khan

1926 - 1981

Gharana: Kapurthala

Teacher: Ustad Mahboob Ali Khan

Ustad Fateh Ali Khan was closely associated with legendary music director Master Ghulam Haider and is said to have introduced sitar accompaniment in the Indian film industry.

 

 

Ustad Imdad Hussain Khan

1936-

Gharana: Delhi

Teachers: Ustad Ahmadi Khan and Ustad Kabir Khan.

Hailing from the esteemed Delhi gharana of tabla, Imdad Hussain has vast command over his instrument. He regularly participates in the musical soirees of Karachi.

 

 

Ashraf Sharif Khan

Teacher: Ustad Sharif Khan

Ashraf is amongst the most technically proficient sitar players of the younger generation and displays the same finesse as his late father, Ustad Sharif Khan.

Teacher: Ustad Fateh Ali Khan

Nafees Ahmed is an established name amongst the sitar players of Pakistan. Equally proficient in solo and accompaniment forms of sitar playing, his strength is his command over rhythmic interplay.

Farhan Khan

Teacher: Ustad Rais Khan

A bright hope, Farhan is under the supervision of his father, Ustad Rais Khan. He has been touring with his father on an extensive basis and working hard in becoming a seasoned musician.
