Ustad Salamat Ali Khan passes away.

The world of classical music was in mourning at the death of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, the great vocalist of Shamchaurasi Gharana who passed away on July 13th 2001. Ustad Salamat Ali Khan is considered to be one of the foremost exponents of classical music of the 20th century. He attained fame at a young age and performed with his elder brother Ustad Nazakat Ali Khan. The duo excelled in vocal jugalbandi and played a big part in introducing classical vocal music to international audiences.

Recently the ustad's health had deteriorated due to diabetes which resulted in the loss of vision in the few months before his death. Salamat Ali Khansahab's death has created a big void in the field of classical music. The ustad leaves behind a wife, four sons and four daughters. May the Almighty bless his soul and give his family courage to overcome this monumental loss.
